| Magestry Winter Party Raffle |
[Jan. 14th, 2012|09:37 pm] |
|
Magestic Friends! As is tradition, we are having a Raffle as a part of our Winter Festivities and, like last year, we are starting the Raffle NOW! That’s right, you can start buying your tickets online now to be entered in the Raffle at the Winter Party. Take a look at some of the prizes you may win! This year, tickets are $5.00 each and you will earn one Brownie Point for every dollar you spend on the raffle. You may buy them online until 11:00pm on February 3rd. After then, you can purchase tickets at the party for the same price by seeing one of the GMs (Paul, Scott, Mike, or Angela). To buy your tickets online, go to www.Magestry.com and click on the “Buy Raffle Tickets” button. The tickets you purchase online will be given to you at the party so you may enter them into the lots of your choice. If you wish to enter the raffle but will not be at the party, please email Paul at Paul@Magestry.com to inform him which lot(s) to enter your tickets into. The drawings for all the items will take place at the party on February 4th at 10:00pm. Tickets will be sold up until that time as well. ** Multiple Draw Categories:** As we have done in the past, most of the categories in the raffle require multiple draws. This means that several names will be drawn from the same category. The first draw in each category will get what we have deemed the "top prize" and each draw after that will receive prizes in descending order of distinction. For example, the first name drawn in the “Skill Points... lots of 'em!” category will win 35 skill points, while the second name drawn will win 25 skill points; the third name will win 20 skill points and so on. Each person will only be able to win once in each category. Additionally, we will allow winners to trade their winning prize for a prize of less distinction if they wish it. For example if your name was drawn first in the Informational category, but you really wanted the “Ticket To Ride” prize, you would be able to relinquish your 1st draw prize and take the 6th draw prize instead. However, you must be present at the time of the drawing in order to make that trade. And so, without further ado, the Items:
Lot 1: Skill Points 1st draw: 35 SP 2nd draw: 25 SP 3rd draw: 20 SP 4th draw: 15 SP 5th draw: 10 SP Skill points added straight to your character card. Face it: You want 'em.
How much can you really say about skill points? There they are. We know you want 'em. ‘Nuff said.
Lot 2: Informational 1st draw: A Legend Lore Written For Your Character By The Staff 2nd draw: 2 Free Gather Information requests 3rd draw: Messenger guild goof: Intercept an intriguing letter 4th draw: Receive a special random knowledge regarding one of the current plotlines 5th draw: Punched A Scholar- One-time library access, including either the library of Concori Ayre or Concori Magesti. 6th draw: A Ticket To Ride- One between-game travel by horse or boat completely paid for.
“But… my mother… she’s dying, sir! I promise, I will pay you when I get back!” The young girl grasped a bedraggled-looking letter in one hand and a small bindle in the other as she pleaded with the stable master. He glared at her coldly and spit a wad of brown juice at her feet. “I don’t take nothin’ on goodwill, girlie. Find another ride.” He turned away as the tears started to roll down her cheeks- he never could stand the sniveling of the young ones. As he started to take a bite out of the packed leaf he had stashed in his pocket, the sound of several coins tumbling across his counter gave him pause. He looked back to see a pile of gold pieces glinting next to the dark glove of a well-dressed gentleman wearing the silver and red of the Donato family. He sank to one knee as the man took the girl’s hand and when they left the carriage house, he heard him remark, “… and you can pick any of the horses you want, little one.”
There is no such thing as too much information, right? Knowledge is Power! And you want to be the person who has it all and to whom everyone else comes with their questions and delicious tidbits of information. Winning one of these prizes could gain you fame, notoriety, or, at the very least, a little bit of much-needed information.
Lot 3: Quick Fixes 1st draw: The Antidote- A vial containing an mysterious substance that will reverse all negative effects currently affecting the drinker and return him to his or her normal (and living) state. One dose. Use it wisely. 2nd draw: The Nightcap- A sleep scroll empowered by the Incarnation of Dream, Lucidius, using his name (i.e. By Lucidius’s own power…). 3rd draw: Ol’ MacGuffins’s Sack- Activate this prize for a between-game travel and receive help on a specific plot. Could be information; could be an item… Who knows?
A rickety wooden sign bearing the words “Old Mac Guffin’s Gifts and Antiquities” swung outside a dingy looking shop. Feeling that perhaps your contact had sent you on a goose chase, you nevertheless entered the shop to be greeted by the tinkling of a small bell attached to the door. You gazed around at the “treasures” placed neatly on the shelves- a black, gem-encrusted statue of some bird of prey; a rough-hewn, though beautiful chalice; an old-fashioned, bronze oil lamp; an immensely compelling golden ring on a thin silver chain; a magnificent sword, finely wrought, standing in what looked like a piece of granite. As you strayed back to the golden ring (it would make a fine birthday present), a small cough informed you that you were not alone. You turned around to see a grizzled old man standing not two feet from you and grinning like a cat. “The name’s Mac,” he wheezed, “And have I got what you need!” You started to protest, but were immediately stunned to silence as he pulled, from a pouch around his waist, a crystalline cube. “But… t-that’s the… How did you-?“ “I know! I know! Didn’t I say that I have what you need?!” Giggling, Mac pressed the cube into your shaking hands. “No charge, youngster. Enjoy!” Then, with a wave and another wheezing giggle, he bowed you from the shop.
Get a little stuck on a plot or something? Wish there was something to help you get near-instant gratification? This category is designed to help you get a quick fix for those pesky little problems that plague your character’s existence.
Lot 4: The Connoisseur’s Corner- 1st draw: The Stalemate- For the rest of 2012, a non-player character of your choice cannot harm you, nor you him. (This refers to a single character- not every character played by a single staff member.) You must notify the GMs (during out-of-game time) as soon as you decide on the NPC you wish to be immune to. 2nd draw: The Catalyst- A knowledgeable contact you make during OOG time will be indebted to you, for some reason (we’ll write that up!), and will be willing and able to help you with something. 3rd draw: The Haunting- Be haunted by a spirit from your character’s past. 4th draw: A “Unique Business Opportunity”- An opportunity you don’t see everyday. Make some money; learn a new skill; meet a new contact; you never know what this opportunity could become!
The young mage had just finished putting away the dinner things when the door to his modest cottage burst open revealing a tattered young woman bearing the distinctive look and stature of one being hunted. She stepped into the house, slammed the door, and pressed herself against it, muttering wildly. “For the love of Luck’s Stones…” It was then she noticed the astonished mage standing in the firelight, “Do something! Hide me! Please! Just don’t let them find me here!” The young mage started to protest, but took another look at the woman’s frightened features and, steeling himself, showed her to his hidden, underground storage room. Just as he dropped a fur over the door, his front door burst open once more. This time, he was angry. Summoning all his power, he thoroughly chastised the ruffians and threw them from his cottage. Once he was sure all was quiet, he opened the door and invited the woman up into his cottage, offering her meat and ale. As she ate, she told him that she was a Jane of Luck, wouldn’t you know, and must have suckled at Fortune’s left teat tonight. Pointing a greasy finger in his direction she winked and added, “And now I owe you one. Lucky you! What can I do you for?”
This distinctive category offers a selection of prizes that will, undoubtedly, develop your social palate.
Lot 5: Skills 1st draw: Learn an Add-On Skill in the school of your choice 2nd draw: Enjoy a single event with a 4000SP character build of your choice to replace your normal character skills. (You must notify the GMs at least one week before you use this prize in-game.) 3rd draw: Benefit from the spell Regeneration for an entire day of your choice. Dispel Greater Magic will turn this effect off for 10 minutes; though, if you die, you may proceed to benefit from it even after you return from Vorkarian. (You must notify the GMs at least one week before you use this prize in-game.) 4th draw: A single use of any skill from the Magestry Player's Rulebook or from the Professions & Prestige rule supplement.
Sweat beaded over his brow and under his arms as he heard the familiar, bouncing gait. He crouched down further in the shadows and waited, panting a little in anticipation as the steps grew closer to his hiding spot. Finally, he saw his prey- a young girl skipping down the path humming happily, a ragged dolly swinging in her hand. He sucked in his breath and, closing his eyes, prayed fervently to Lady Fear that he would be able to pull this skill off… just this once. Just as the child stepped into the shade of his tree, he leaped out of its branches and directly into her path, yelling like a banshee. As he rolled his eyes and shook his fists, the little girl screamed in terror and raced back down the path she had come. He heard her sobs drifting back to him on the wind: “I’m… telling… Mommmmmmmeeeeee!” The boy picked up the dolly where his sister had dropped it and laughed until his sides hurt, before wiping his eyes and starting home. The beating would be worth it, he thought. Terrorize. What a wonderful thing.
Have you seen a skill in the rulebook that you’re dying to try out? Have you ever wished you could do something just a little different with your character? How about just being a hearty hero for a day? The prizes in this lot serve to fulfill these wishes and many more!
Lot 6: Potion Grab Bag 1st draw: 5 pulls from the Grab Bag 2nd draw: 4 pulls from the Grab Bag 3rd draw: 3 pulls from the Grab Bag 4th draw: 2 pulls from the Grab Bag 5th draw: 1 pull from the Grab Bag
“The Enlightened Order Concerning Alchemy in Irvanshire hopes that you will remember them among your charitable donations as we begin our farewell to the one hundred and twenty first year of the Age of Fortune. Please accept these potions as tokens of our esteem and favors to remember us by.”
This category offers you the opportunity to receive as many as five potions/blade poisons from a Grab Bag! These substances, ranging from Grades 4-9, will have been received from a trusted IG source and are already labeled correctly!
Lot 7: Character Building Commissioned Drawing of your/a Character- A pencil drawing of your Magestry character (or how you wish your character looked) or one other of your favorite D&D characters. Done by Angela Jacobs.
Lot 8: Custom Boffer A Custom- Made Boffer Weapon- A Magestry-legal boffer weapon phys rep of your design made by Mark Dey. (NPCs, this is for you too!)
Lot 9: A Freebie One Free Event- Just what it says: One Free Magestry Event! Can’t go wrong here!

Magestans! The time has come for everyone to once again strut his or her culinary prowess: As we have done in years past, we are having a potluck style dinner that everyone can contribute to. This is the perfect chance for you to share your favorite kind of munchie with the masses. Of course, your contribution will be well compensated for in [what may be our most appropriate use of] Brownie Points. We encourage you to bring any kind of main entrée, dessert, or hors d’ oeuvres of your choosing. We could also use drinks, snacks, cups, napkins, eating utensils, and plates. As soon as you know what you would like to bring, or if you have any questions about what still needs to be brought, send an email to Mike Kinnally at mkinnally@kbace.com. Remember to include the amount you intend on bringing as well. We want to make sure that we have enough delicious treats to go around instead of 30 different kinds of pickled herring. So if you have your heart set on making something specific, email us as soon as you can before all the slots fill up. Those who let us know early what they will be bringing (and, of course, bring it) will receive bonus Brownie Points for their consideration! With your help, we look forward to having a delicious feast worthy of a town of heroes! -Yours in Magestic Munchies The Magestic Staff |

| Goodbye! Well, sort of... |
[Nov. 10th, 2011|09:51 am] |
For the past 6 years I've dedicated myself to writing plots and getting beaten on by the best LARP playerbase I have ever seen. Some of the best moments in my life, and the majority of my friendships, have happened as a result of staffing at Magestry. I've met a lot of great people here and it has been an honor to serve the Magestry players. I really suck at this kind of stuff so I'll keep it short. You're all awesome and I look forward to PCing with you all.
